What to do with old silverware boxes.

I ran across some old silverware boxes
at my favorite consignment shop.
I thought they would make great storage
as decorative boxes.
Here's the before look before I painted them.

Here's one I painted black and used bird accents.

The lining was still in good shape
so I kept it.
I just added a little bird stencil to tie in with the top.

This one I painted one of my favorite colors.
You guess it. Turquoise.
I dry brushed it with black and added
another bird stencil.
On the inside I didn't keep the lining
so I painted it gloss black.

This box wasn't really a silverware box.
It was a small cedar box.
I painted this one red and dry brushed it with black.
I added a black knob and kept the inside cedar.

I call this the dog box.
It's a denim color blue.
I painted the bone on the top
so you could add your pets name on it.
Then added some paw prints and an adorable dog head knob.

I kept the lining on this one also.
It's a prettier brown then it looks in the picture.
I added a big paw print inside and also added some little feet on the bottom.

Here's the first one I ever did.
It's for my little dog Tilly, that past away last July.
I left it stained and painted some pink accents on it.

I lined this one in pink and added some ribbon.
It holds a picture of her.
Isn't she beautiful. I really miss her.
I also put all her old collars, bows, and some of her first stuffed animals in there.
I also put the sympathy cards that were sent after she died.
It's a treasured box. You can read more about Tilly here.

And lastly, this one I painted a bright blue
and added a tree and some birdies.
I also put on a wooded knob that I stenciled with a bird.
I added some little feet to this one also.

Well that's it. Hope you like them.

I'd love to read your comments.

Rejoice always!

  1. Turquoise is my favorite color and my nickname is "Bird," so guess which one I love??

Super idea for the memory box of Tilly. I'm so sorry. We lost our black lab last year and I still miss her so much.

  6. What great ideas! I happen to have an old silverware in my project stash too...now I know what I'm going to do with it? What kind of little feet did you put on them?

    1. Thank you Nadine. For the feet I used the wooden buttons that are used to hide screws when you countersink them. You could also use wooden spools cut in half. Have fun. Thanks again for the comment.
