NEW LIFE FOR AN OLD COUCH

Over thirty years ago my husband and I bought our first couch.
At the time it was covered in brown and peach plaid.
What were we thinking!
Then when we moved into our next house we had it covered
in this blue fabric.  It's been that way for thirty years.
It's lived in many different places. First was our great room.
Then in our basement for many years.
Then it was moved onto our glassed in back porch.
Next it was moved into the log cabin I redid for my dad last year.
Ever since we had our open porch built I have wanted a couch out there.
Outdoor couches are expensive. So I started thinking about other alternatives.
It finally occurred to me that I had the very thing up at the cabin.
So I became an indian giver and moved it back down to my house.
The move itself would have been a funny video.
This thing is solid oak and very very heavy.
So an old man, (my dad), an old lady(me) and my daughter
tackled this thing with an old thirty something truck.
Well we got it moved and I couldn't be happier.
Here's a look see at it in place.

We are really enjoying it out there and it provides a lot of seating.

Here's a few more views of the porch.
Side views.

It's also great for napping :)

And with ceiling fans it stays pretty comfortable heat wise.

The other end of the porch.

And when I'm sitting on the couch these are some of my views.
This one is of the chicken coop and run
and the kids playhouse.

This is the pergola covered in muscadine vines
with the fort in the background.

This is the rest of the open patio and my little garden to the left.

Thus ends the tour of my back porch with my old couch.
I do have plans to change up the couch a little.
I plan on painting the frame white at some point. (this summer)
And maybe in a few years recovering the cushions.
Now
I think it's time for a nap :)

THINGS TO DO WITH BLUE WINE BOTTLES.

I love the color blue.
And I love blue wine bottles. And the wine:)
I didn't want to throw these beautiful bottles in the recycle,
so I decided to use them in different ways.

First up (and my favorite)
is to make some yard art.
I put in different size stakes
made out of copper piping or rebar.
Then just insert the bottle on the pipe.
You can make this collection as big as you like if you have the room.

Next up, use them as a vase.

I decided to make one into a wind chime.
This one hangs out on my open porch.

They make nice lighted bottles.
A little seasonal art.

Here's a few more wine bottle chimes.
The blue ones always sell the best.

A few more lighted wine bottles that I painted with snowmen.

One more wind chime for you.

And another look at my wine bottle yard art:)

Hope you enjoyed my blue wine bottle collection.

THE EGG HOLDER :)

Behold the Egg Holder :)
At least that's what I'm calling it.
I'm sure it had a proper name back at the beginning of the 19th century.
I first saw this on another blog.
The Polished Pebble.
She did a post on old kitchens such as the one on Downton Abbey.
I loved that show, anyway, in one of the pictures I could
see an egg holder on one of those big beautiful farm tables.
That was such a great kitchen on that show.
So I thought I'd make myself one.
I only have 2 hens laying at the moment, so I don't really
get enough eggs to use a big egg basket like I did before.
I don't refrigerate my eggs so I thought this was a great alternative.

I started with a leftover board of my chosen size.

Marked out the spots for my holes,
then went down to my dads' shop and used his drill press.
That is a great piece of machinery.
Makes drilling holes so much easier than a hand drill.

For the legs I wanted to use some old wooden spools.
The biggest problem with that was finding them.
I've had them so long it was a real search to locate them.
I haven't seen thread on wooden spools in ages.
They only use plastic now.
But here they are.

I painted my board and hot glued them on the bottom.

So here you go.

 Behold my Egg Holder.

I made mine to hold a dozen eggs.

The girls finally laid enough eggs to fill it up.

Hope you like it.

whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of GOD.
