Cereus, A Night Blooming Cactus

I thought it might be nice to dream of something that blooms in the
summer on these cold and icy days.
I ran across these pictures of this remarkable cactus.
It's called Cereus and it only blooms at night.
It is very fragrant. It smells like a sweet lotion.
Enjoy.
This is the pod which starts to slowly open before nightfall.

Slowly opening. Notice it's now dark.

A little more.

And finally this beautiful flower  is open.
 It's around 11:00 p.m.

Isn't it gorgeous?

And it smells so sweet!

What a lovely specimen of God's creation.

God is so magnificent!

You will seek me and find me
when you seek me with all your heart.

IDEAS FOR FENCE PICKETS

When we replaced our white wooden fence with vinyl
I thought, what will I do with all these pickets.
Since I like to re-use things and turn them into something else,
these are a few of the things I have come up with. So far...

The fence looks pretty rough. I've repainted it for years
but I was really getting tired of that. So last year we finally replaced it.

After taking it apart my first idea was fish.
After scraping and sanding and doing a little sawing
these are what I came up with.

After painting, here are some of the fish.
I've made schools of them.

My next idea was a flag.
Here is Old Glory.

Here's a Christian Flag.

One of my favorite flowers is the poppy.
After trimming the pickets to a certain size
I formed a canvas out of wood.
And voila!
A Poppy.

Another strange flower on a wood canvas.

I had odds and ends of cut off pieces.
So wood art is what I came up with
Most of these have a bell or snowflake attached to it.
There's also some rooster art.

This is a small wood canvas about 10x12.
I stenciled on this one.

I had so many fish, another idea I came up with was to add pegs to them.
To hang aprons, a coat, dog leashes, or whatever.
These go up and down.

These go across.
They're more of a coat rack.
Or whatever you want!

Since I had some cut off pieces of the top of the pickets
I thought they'd make a great Grinch.

One of my favorite things is my Chicken Art for the Hen House.

That's Bouffant and Slippers at the coop door.
They're so little there.

And last but not least is my picket Snowman.
He can hang on the wall, a door or any narrow space.

And that's it so far.
I'll be coming up with more ideas in the future.
Hope you enjoyed these.

The Mystery Solved

And the winner of the green egg laying is:
Sadie.

Because yesterday when I went out to collect the eggs
we had another addition to the egg pool.
It was Bouffant's tiny egg.
After doing more research on white silkies I found out
that they lay white or creamed colored eggs.
There blue earlobes have nothing to do with the color of the eggs
on a silkie as I had heard before.
As you can see, her egg is smaller then the others.

And here's the little egg layer herself.
Isn't she cute?

Now the only one left who hasn't started laying is Penny.
She should start anytime now.
Maybe even today!
The wait continues.....
Lets go Penny!!

Colossians 3:15
And let the peace of God rule in your hearts,
to the which also ye are called in one body;
and be ye thankful.

The First Green Egg

We finally had our first beautiful green egg a few days ago.

It will join the other beautiful brown eggs.

This is Copper.
She's the first of our egg layers.
Her eggs are a darker brown.

This is Blackberry and she lays a light brown egg.

Here's a look at the different color of eggs.
The top is the green layer, to the left is Copper's
and to the right is Blackberry's.

This is Sadie.
She's a green egg layer.

 And this is Bouffant.
She's also a green egg layer.
And for now I don't know which one is laying the green egg.
They are both the same age, over 6 months old.
I guess time will tell.

Looks like we can now have green eggs and ham.

May Your gracious Spirit lead me on level ground.

The Wonders of Winter

I've left my fountain going during all this cold, cold weather.
I thought this looked really interesting.
As the water keeps running it's building up an ice sculpture.

Pretty neat isn't it!
Stay Warm.

Mightier than the thunder of the great waters,
Mightier than the breakers of the sea-
the Lord on high is mighty.
