RE-DOING ANOTHER POPCORN CEILING

Well, I finally have one more ceiling that the popcorn has been removed.
Yippee!
My son in-law came one day and helped me cover it up.
Really I helped him.
Here's a beautiful before of the popcorn.
Don't you just love it?

Who invented this stuff?

I went up in the attic and found the placement of the ceiling joists.
Then my husband helped me mark them with a chalk line.
He also took the fan down for me.

I used underlayment to cover the ceiling, because it's thin and light weight.
I painted all the supplies before we installed them.
Here is the first and most important piece.
Yeah.

After the ceiling was covered with the panels
we lined up lattice trim over the seams.
We installed the panels and trim to make four foot sections.

We were short by one piece.
Nothing a trip to Lowes won't fix.

After all the trim was installed I had to patch the nail holes
and caulk around all the trim.
I also gave everything one more coat of paint.

At all the intersections of the lattice trim I installed appliques.

I found these at Hobby Lobby.

After I painted them all white I attached them to the ceiling.

I just lined them up and hot glued them in place.

I think they finished it off nicely.

Here's a few pics of the finished ceiling.

I think it looks much better than popcorn.
Don't you?
Hope you enjoyed the change.

Let everything that breathes praise the Lord.
Hallelujah!

  1. OH, that is a stunning and totally awesome redo. You are so brave . . . ceilings are something I'm not brave enough to tackle. We have popcorn in your bedrooms and it will probably be there when we die, LOL. Of course everything seems to make a come back . . . who knows, by then popcorn might be in style again, LOL.
    Have a lovely day.

  3. Your ceiling turned out really nice! Your way to cover the ceiling seems so much easier. My husband and I have been scraping the popcorn off then texturing and painting. It's not really hard, comes off easy, it just makes a mess. )-;

  4. How were the panels attached? Looks wonderful and could be a good option for me too!

  5. That looks lovely! one of the rooms in my house has similar ceilings, I think I need to go look for some appliques for the intersections.

  6. We've been talking of doing this in our kitchen and in our bedroom! You have made this look so easy! I think the decorative wood appliques-- were the sweetest little touch.
Another thing... the chalk lines and then starting by centering your first piece... I appreciate those two tips the most I think!

  7. When I owned my other home I wanted to take my hands and place them around the neck of the person that came up with popcorn ceilings!!! You did a wonderful job cause those are the hardest things to paint but with luck mine never came down while I was painting them.....that would have been more cause for me to find that person....lol
